Collection: Olya Shevel

Olya Shevel is an artist as well as an author from Ukraine. Apart from being a children’s author, She is a professional oil, acrylic painting artist with her paintings found around the world from London to Sydney, from Florence to Singapore, from France to The United States and in Australia and New Zealand.

"The created literary work and the technique of painting  is unique in the world."  Valentina Efremova, art critic, Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine, laureate of the Platon Biletsky Prize says.

For the last two years she has been working on a project and indeed her dream has  come true in that she has published her first children’s book entitled  “Dreams Come True”  It is a happy book about a little sheep with BIG dreams that  Olya both wrote and also illustrated. In “Dreams Come True” the two characters in the story have their own dreams and desires and when  their paths cross, they help each other through their interaction and with magic, their dreams come true. The reward comes not from just striving but from having a pure heart. In the magic world of storytelling this tale talks of living with a dream as each of the heroes listened to their heart and received their wish.

Olya says:

"There are so few miracles in our lives, or we do just not see them? When I received in a dream my first lesson in painting, I was shocked! Until that time I had never painted. The gift had its origin in the stress created by the death of my parents and now results in the creation of beautiful and sometimes incredible works that border between two worlds. My paintings have their genesis at night  when  I receives instructions in my dreams, I believe this is a gift from  my deceased parents.

I have no institutional education, my creative process takes place in an amazing state of spiritual impulse when my hands, heart and thoughts have one goal: the process of creating an artistic image. It turns out that by not having a clue about painting, I began to paint, inspired from my dreams, not influenced by traditional teaching."

"We must pay tribute to the colour relationships and the composition of her paintings is indeed quite professional. From the paintings comes incredible  energy, they state their sincerity." Art critic Valentine Efremov again, "It does not create a subject but captures the state in which an enormous energy awaits new meetings."

More from Olya:

"Colour, light, shape, have a vibration that has long been proved by physicists  and biologists. It is theses harmonies and energy with which the artist fills the  picture It has long been no secret that the objects carry information about their owner. Oil and canvas are the properties of stored energy of the artist their emotional state and the place where it was created. Therefore, the picture is  a conductor between the world and the artist, the artist’s energy and condition at the time of painting the work, allowing the audience to feel the paintings and their author. I love happiness, to feel it and to give to  people. The process of creating a painting is similar to the birth of a baby and his first smile. For example; I like New Zealand  where I live now, the volcanic energy helps me to convey in my paintings even more feeling and energy"

Her first exhibition in 2014 was held in Sydney, Australia only seven months after her first dream at Breathing Colurs gallery.

There have been many exhibitions all over the world, as well as interviews on radio and television  and in newspapers and magazines.

"The most pleasant and rewarding thing", Olya says, "is when people say they have been spoken to through both my paintings and my books."
